The Garden

April 25, 2011

I took some pictures of our raised garden today. That Daddy built it for me and took the time to get some good compost to fill it with as well.

I have planted (from the top): a row of okra, a row with 1 zucchini and 1 squash plant, a row of tomatoes, a row of broccoli, another row of tomatoes, a row with melon and bell peppers and the bottom (without any sprouts yet) has purple onions in it. I could have easily planted another whole raised bed or two, but this will be good for starting.

Here’s a close up of my biggest broccoli plant. I’m a bit concerned about the bug since it looks like some of the leaves are being eaten. I’m investigating some less-chemically (it’s a word) solutions.

Nice! I’d like to try a raised garden sometime. We just planted our garden last weekend. Isn’t it so hard to wait?!?

Waiting it tough! I have had a couple of surprises with the okra and zucchini popping up. I’m excited and nervous about actually getting some food from the garden.
